Welcome

Dr. Louise Fennell is a Registered Psychologist with the College​ of Psychologists of British Columbia (#2228). She is also board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) as a diplomate of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN). Dr. Fennell holds a Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ) through the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB). She has been previously licensed in Massachusetts, Alberta and Hawaii. 

Dr. Fennell obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Victoria with a focus on neuropsychology. Pre- and Post-doctoral training was completed at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Fennell has worked with adults, children, youth and families in hospital, forensic and private practice settings in Canada and the United States. Currently, she is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Victoria and an Associate Member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Dr. Fennell supervises practicum students at the University of Victoria Psychology Clinic. She has taught courses in Developmental Disabilities, Cognitive Assessment, Lifespan Psychology, Psychopharmacology, Biological Psychology at the graduate and undergraduate level. 

Dr. Fennell's areas of speciality throughout her career have included traumatic brain injury, attentional functioning, cognitive rehabilitation, the impact of cancer treatment on neuropsychological functioning in children, and psychosocial interventions for families and children experiencing cancer treatment and other health challenges. Current areas of particular interest are autism spectrum disorders, learning disorders, and disorders of attention and  executive function. Dr. Fennell is particularly interested in intervention strategies for school and home. While Dr. Fennell does not conduct diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorders, she brings a deep understanding of ASD, particularly intervention approaches, to her comprehensive assessments, which can better characterize an individual's strengths and weaknesses beyond diagnosis and help to plan supports for home and school. 

Dr. Fennell's intervention work is informed by relational approaches as well as progressive cognitive behavioral therapy approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She is passionate about guiding parents to best support their children and working directly with children and youth. 

Dr. Fennell loves the outdoors and is passionate about all disciplines of cycling as well as camping, paddling and equestrian sports. She enjoys spending time with her family and pets in this beautiful province.
